Clinical dosing reference — FDA-approved only
Shown only for prescription drugs with an FDA label. This describes how these medications are typically prescribed, not a recommendation for you specifically — your prescriber sets and adjusts your actual dose.
Semaglutide (Wegovy)
- Titration
- Weekly subcutaneous injection, starting at 0.25 mg. Dose is increased roughly every 4 weeks — 0.25 mg → 0.5 mg → 1 mg → 1.7 mg → 2.4 mg — over about 16 weeks, to reduce GI side effects.
- Maintenance dose
- 2.4 mg once weekly (1.7 mg is an FDA-approved alternative maintenance dose for patients who don't tolerate 2.4 mg).
- Trial results
- In the STEP 1 trial (68 weeks), participants on semaglutide plus lifestyle intervention lost a mean of 14.9% of body weight, vs. 2.4% on placebo.
Tirzepatide (Zepbound)
- Titration
- Weekly subcutaneous injection, starting at 2.5 mg (a treatment-initiation dose, not a maintenance dose). After 4 weeks, increased to 5 mg, then optionally in 2.5 mg increments every 4+ weeks up to a maximum of 15 mg.
- Maintenance dose
- 5 mg, 10 mg, or 15 mg once weekly — many patients stay at 5 mg or 10 mg rather than titrating to the maximum.
- Trial results
- In the SURMOUNT-1 trial (72 weeks), participants on the 15 mg dose lost a mean of 20.9% of body weight, vs. 3.1% on placebo.
